Nineteen International Students from Eleven Countries Learn Chinese at GUCAS

On 8 March, 2012, the opening ceremony of the 2012 Spring-semester Chinese Training Course was held at the Yuquan Campus of GUCAS. In this semester, 19 international students from 11 countries are receiving Chinese language training. At the ceremony, the international students were given a brief introduction to GUCAS history, its current situation and its vision for the future. In the afternoon, they visited the CAS Key Laboratory of Computational Geodynamics and the GUCAS history museum.

The 19 international students enrolled in the 2012 Spring-semester Chinese Language Training Course come from Germany, Denmark, Pakistan and eight other nations. After completing the Chinese language course, they will go to 14 separate CAS institutes, e.g. Beijing Institute of Genomics, Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter. Their majors include ecology, accelerator physics, management science and engineering and ten other fields.

2011 GUCAS Graduation Ceremony

On the morning of 15 July, the 2011 GUCAS graduation ceremony was held at the Yuquanlu campus. There were 8730 students who received masters or doctoral degrees in 2011. About 660 student representatives attended the ceremonies, coming from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan and Chengdu.

The ceremony began with the playing of China's national anthem. Prof. Deng Yong, Secretary General of CAS and Executive Vice President of GUCAS, announced the name list of 2011 GUCAS students to be awarded degrees.

Prof. Bai Chunli, President of CAS and GUCAS, congratulated the new graduates telling them of his great expectations for their future careers.

Academician Jiang Guibin and Mr. Wei Wei respectively spoke on behalf of the faculty and the students.

After the graduates received their degrees, President Bai and the faculty present joined them for a group photo.

Recruitment of English Language Instructor for 2012-2013 Academic Year

Founded in Beijing 1978, Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (GUCAS) is the first graduate school in P.R. China. Backed by more than 100 national research institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), GUCAS is the most comprehensive and prestigious post-graduate education institution in China, covering almost all the fields in science and technology.

As of 2010, there are nearly 37,393 students at GUCAS, among which half are PHD students.

GUCAS’ committed faculty is comprised of over 320 Members of Chinese Academy of Sciences and of Chinese Academy of Engineering and over 8,000 academic supervisors dedicated to postgraduate education.

Following the principle of education with an open and global perspective, GUCAS has established multi-level exchanges and cooperation with many famous educational and research institutions in Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania.

Applications are invited for the position of teaching English at GUCAS.

REQUIREMENTS
Native-speaker of English with Bachelor's Degree or above

Candidates with teaching or relative experiences at least 2 years

TEACHING COMMITMENTS
Fourteen to sixteen class-hours per week, teaching oral and written English to non-English major Ph. D and Master students
